"A master monologuist who has dedicated her life and work to exploring the fault lines of race and class and politics" — San Jose Mercury News

Anna Deavere Smith just unveiled her newest work in Berkeley, an investigation of the cycle of suspension from school to incarceration in underserved communities. She brings it to Stanford Live as part of Live Context: Art + Ideas.

Writing for the San Francisco Chronicle, theater critic Robert Hurwitt described the still work-in-progress production "as eye-opening and provocative as it is sure-handed and emotionally moving."  Smith also spoke at length to the San Jose Mercury News prior to the opening.

Stanford audiences will see it on October 30 — in addition to two other potent and powerful appearances. Stay tuned for more events to be announced as part this retrospective.
