“Remarkable . . . for the joy they take in the act of connection.” —New Yorker
In the second of this season’s pair of Sunday-afternoon SLSQ performances, Stanford’s eminent resident ensemble is joined by guest oboist James Austin Smith for Mozart’s Oboe Quartet (oboe, violin, viola, and cello), composed for Mozart’s friend, the Munich oboe virtuoso Friedrich Ramm—and still considered one of the most demanding pieces in the oboe repertoire. The program also includes another technically challenging work for its day, Beethoven’s third “Rasumovsky” string quartet, plus additional works to be announced.
Program
Beethoven: String Quartet No.9 in C Major, Op.59, No.3 “Rasumovsky” (1806); Mozart: Oboe Quartet in F Major, K.370 (1781); additional works TBA

“Sundays with the St. Lawrence” is presented in partnership with Music at Stanford.
Generously supported by Paul and Iris Brest.
