Classically trained Iranian musician, Kayhan Kalhor, speaks to the Iranian cultural revolution’s impact on his training, which forced him to leave the country to continue his musical education abroad. He subsequently returned to Iran, inspired by his longing for the country and his desire to guide the next generation of musicians. Kayhan also describes his collaborations with YoYo Ma in the acclaimed Silk Road Ensemble as well as string quartet Brooklyn Rider.

As a master artist, he talks about the role of culture to inspire political action and for need to musicians to engage with politicians.
