“Change your leaves, keep intact your roots.”
—Victor Hugo

Welcome to the new Stanford Live digital magazine. As you might imagine, the last year has provided us with considerable time to think about the way in which we share our season and stories about artists with you, the audience. This period of reflection, coupled with growing concerns around environmental impact and sustainability, led us to migrate away from our Encore magazine to this new digital format.

In preparing for this shift, we looked closely at leaders in the print industry, including The New York Times, The Atlantic, and The New Yorker, who have spent the last decade navigating to a digital landscape. From this, we have come up with our own format that borrows heavily from the best practices of these and other on-line publications. While we no longer will distribute a physical object, we will continue to commission features, cover art, poetry, and infographics for each bi-monthly publication.

We’re also very excited about the additional possibilities this platform offers, including the ability to produce more interactive content and to showcase the digital assets (film, interviews, podcasts, photo galleries, etc.) that we’ve created during the pandemic.

As 2020 winds to a close, we enter a new year with hopes that we’ll be able to gather with all of you once again. Until then, all of us at Stanford Live hope that you have a peaceful and healthy holiday.
