Behind the Scenes: Backstage Pass
Over the summer, we launched our Backstage Pass series to provide Stanford Live members with a chance to listen to artists discuss their work with executive director Chris Lorway. The series, which is now archived on our Films and Screening page for members and Stanford students, features monthly interviews from a range of genres—theater, blues, dance, jazz, classical.
With performances and other events on pause for months, Chris Lorway and director of music programs, engagement and education Laura Evans wanted to share a preview of performances originally scheduled for our 2020–21 season. Backstage Pass then emerged and took shape as an intimate artist in conversation series that explores artistic influences, creative practices during the pandemic, discussion of works that will return to the stage when it’s safe, and more. Like many virtual events these days, Backstage Pass takes place over Zoom webinar thanks to the behind the screen work of Stanford Live staff.
In March, the series will feature a panel of arts leaders discussing the future of the performing arts after the pandemic. Until then, tune into the archived Backstage Pass recordings for interviews with guest artists Martha Redbone, Kyle Abraham, Joyce DiDonato, and more.
