The innovative and outstanding Oakland ensemble AXIS Dance Company, which is composed of performers with and without disabilities, presents to go again, a dramatic new work of dance theater by esteemed San Francisco choreographer Joe Goode. The dance reflects on American veterans returning home from war, the challenges they confront, and the resilience with which they face them. Known for his creative mix of text and movement, Goode collaborated on the piece with dancers who know what it means to live with adversity.
Pre-show talk at 6:30pm: Combat Trauma in Science and Art
Stanford psychiatrist Dr. Amit Etkin joins AXIS Dance artistic director Judith Smith for a conversation about the changing conceptions of combat trauma in science and art, which are expanding our understanding about the experiences and resilience of our returning veterans.
This performance is part of the 2015-16 Live Context: Art + Ideas series.
