Join us for a panel conversation on the nuances of life with musician, composer, and creator Meredith Monk alongside Stanford University's forgiveness expert Dr. Fred Luskin and professor of pathology Joseph Lipsick. The conversation will be moderated by Professor Robert Pogue Harrison.

Meredith Monk (b. November 20, 1942, New York, NY) is a composer, singer, director/choreographer and creator of new opera, music-theater works, films and installations. Recognized as one of the most unique and influential artists of our time, she is a pioneer in what is now called "extended vocal technique" and "interdisciplinary performance." Catch her new work, Cellular Songs, at Bing Concert Hall on April 6.

Dr. Fred Luskin has completed extensive research on the training and measurement of forgiveness therapy. His research demonstrates that learning forgiveness leads to increased physical vitality, hope, greater self–efficacy, enhanced optimism and conflict resolution skills. It also shows that forgiveness lessons the physical and emotional toll of stress, and decreases hurt, anger depression and blood pressure.

Professor Robert Pogue Harrison was named chair of Stanford's Department of French and Italian in 2002. In 2014 he was knighted "Chevalier" by the French Republic. He is also lead guitarist for the cerebral rock band Glass Wave.

Joseph Lipsick’s career as a poet went astray when he found a job at the unemployment office working in a laboratory, fell in love with research, and eventually became obsessed with understanding how mistakes in our own genes cause cancer. He is a professor of Pathology, Genetics, and Biology.
