Welcome, Stanford families! To celebrate Family Weekend 2020, Stanford students may purchase up to 4 tickets at the student price for all Jane Bunnett and Maqueque performances.
Canadian soprano-sax/flutist Jane Bunnett showcases the best young female artists from Cuba. Drummer Yissy Garcia is the heartbeat and power that propels Maqueque. The collective also includes pianist Danae Olano and new members Mary Paz on percussion, bassist Tailin Marrero, and the soulful vocalist Joanna Majoko.
With five Juno awards, three Grammy nominations and an Officer of the Order of Canada (Canada’s highest civilian award), the group has also been featured on NPR and in The New Yorker and DOWN BEAT magazine. Their third release, On Firm Ground/Tierra Firme, is a bold testament to the strength and originality of Jane Bunnett and Maqueque.
