Combining live jazz with visual art, this performance introduces young audiences to jazz through the work of 20th Century American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, who often depicted jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie in his paintings as noblemen, kings and heroes. The piece explores what they share in common and how their respective life experiences and social conditions shaped their worldview and inspired their prolific artistry.
