Gospel, funk, soul, and Afrobeat come together in this joyful presentation of Rodgers and Hammerstein songs as viewed through a utopian, afrofuturistic lens. The Sound of (Black) Music is a vibrant one-act concert reimagining of the classic musical, featuring songs such as “Do-Re-Mi,” “Edelweiss,” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” all recast through a Black Roots music kaleidoscope.

More than just a riff on a beloved musical, the production aims to reclaim the legacy of Black music and highlight its central role in shaping American culture. Vocalists Brianna Thomas, Charenée Wade, and more are supported by an electrifying band, bringing to life a vibrant retelling of the beloved classic—one fit for the whole family.

Here’s The Sound of Music you thought you knew transmuted through the lens of Black joy. This show was the hit of New York’s annual industry showcase last year with its irresistibly soulful take on Rogers and Hammerstein. You will never hear “Do Re Mi” quite the same way again - so radical and fun!
