The world-famous, San Francisco-based Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra's Stanford series, marked by three performances on the Bing stage, features distinguished soloists in addition to the acclaimed ensemble. Founded in 1981, PBO's unequaled musicianship is further enhanced by its exclusive use of period instruments, original and replica. It is a transporting experience to hear.

PRE-CONCERT TALK: At 6:45pm, PBO welcomes John Prescott who will examine the often interweaving styles of Mozart, Haydn, and their little-known contemporary Adalbert Gyrowetz. Learn how each artist borrowed stylistic elements from one another, and how Haydn’s symphonic form became the exemplar of the Classical period.

Program

  • Gyrowetz: Symphony Op. 6, No. 3

  • Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major, K. 219, Turkish

  • Haydn: Symphony No. 91 in E-flat Major
