A collaboration between two longtime friends, Dinner Party brings together keyboardist and composer Robert Glasper and saxophonist/producer Terrace Martin for a project rooted in their shared love of old-school hip-hop, soul, and modern jazz. Glasper became a superstar with his 2012 Blue Note GRAMMY-winner Black Radio and scored the 2015 Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead, while Martin was a producer of rapper Kendrick Lamar’s landmark To Pimp a Butterfly and is currently working with Herbie Hancock.
Dinner Party is, as its name suggests, intended as a musical conversation between friends. The pair’s 2020 self-titled EP featured saxophonist Kamasi Washington and DJ/producer 9th Wonder, and for this live event, Glasper and Martin have invited GRAMMY-nominated trumpeter Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, described as “jazz’s young style god” by JazzTimes, and DJ Jahi Sundance, known for work with Glasper and Christian McBride.
