This evening brings together two Cuban artists who will burn through Afro-Cuban grooves to bring the heat and energy to Frost. Latin jazz legend Arturo Sandoval headlines the show, with an opening set from Pedrito Martinez and his quintet.
Grammy-winning trumpet virtuoso Arturo Sandoval helped revolutionize Cuban music with the influential band Irakere. He’s recorded over 30 albums and worked with artists including Tito Puente, Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. In 2013 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of his lifetime of cultural contributions.
Pedrito Martinez is a master percussionist. As a bandleader, he is an essential voice in the evolving tradition of Afro-Cuban music and jazz, and as a collaborator, he has recorded and performed with such artists as Paul Simon, Wynton Marsalis, Bruce Springsteen, Paquito D’Rivera, Sting, and super-group Nuevo Jazz Latino.
*Eddie Palmieri was originally scheduled to perform, but unfortunately is under doctor's orders not to travel and will no longer be able to make it.
