Each week, Stanford Under the Stars: Movie Nights at Frost brings a selection of movies featuring actors who attended Stanford or various Stanford and Northern California filming locations. Though Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actress Issa Rae (‘07) studied African American studies and political science, she found ways to engage with storytelling and acting, from her mockumentary “Dorm Diaries” about life in the Ujamaa residence to stage productions like the Motown adaptation of Grease. Following graduation, Rae went on to produce and act in shows such as The Mis-Adventures of an Awkward Black Girl and HBO’s Insecure and numerous movies including The Hate U Give (2018), Little (2019), The Lovebirds (2020), and The Photograph (2020).
When famed photographer Christina Eames dies unexpectedly, she leaves her estranged daughter, Mae, hurt, angry and full of questions. When Mae finds a photograph tucked away in a safe-deposit box, she soon finds herself delving into her mother's early life––an investigation that leads to an unexpected romance with a rising journalist.
All sales end at 11:59 PM PST the night before the movie. To learn more about our COVID-19 Safety Guidelines, click here.
