Creative problem solving, collaboration, critical thinking, effective communication, and resilience are all essential for 21st Century learning. And they’re all part of the circus! In this workshop, we’ll learn how easily adaptable circus activities can help make your classroom a safe space for student learning to take place through courageous experimentation, teamwork, mutual trust, empathy, and community building

With a mission to build meaningful connections through humor and empathy, Calvin Kai Ku uses his experience working as a professional variety performer to build bridges with his audience. With his versatility in magic, music, circus, and theater, he is able to transform even the most stressful environments to ease anxiety and create a safe space of joy. His performing journey has included the prestigious WuQiao Circus Festival in China, various Fortune 500 company events in the U.S. and internationally, and circuses including the Bay Area’s beloved Teatro Zinzanni and Circus Bella. Since 2010 he has practiced healthcare clowning with Medical Clown Project of the San Francisco Bay Area, which brings therapeutic clowning to environments including pediatric units, intensive care units, emergency departments, assisted living, memory care, acute care, specialty nursing, and disaster relief zones.
