About the Artists
fuse*
Elena Annovi
Founded in 2007, fuse* is an artistic studio dedicated to exploring the creative potential of contemporary technologies and their profound influence on how we live, think, and connect with the world.
Led by founders Mattia Carretti (b. 1981, Italy) and Luca Camellini (b. 1981, Italy), the studio brings together a multidisciplinary group of artists, architects, engineers, and designers who collaborate to create innovative projects, artworks, shows, and exhibitions while simultaneously dedicating themselves to research and experimentation. Inspired by the observation of social and natural phenomena and fueled by scientific discoveries and research, fuse* works evolve through collaborations with specialists and research centers, integrating advanced knowledge and diverse ways of thinking.
Known for large-scale installations and live performances, the studio constantly experiments with new relationships between the physical, digital, natural, and artificial, exploring a wide range of artistic media, including sculpture, print, video, light, and sound.
Over the years, the studio has presented its works internationally at art institutions and festivals, including the V&A Museum (UK), Dongdaemun Design Plaza (KOR), Mutek (CA, MX, USA), TodaysArt (NL), Sónar (TUR), Artechouse (USA), the National Museum of China (CN), STRP Biennial (NL), RomaEuropa (IT), Kikk (BEL), Scopitone (FR), Misk Art Institute (KSA), Hong Kong Design Institute (HK), Marignana Arte (IT), CUBO (IT), Videocittà (IT), MoCA Taipei (TW), Fondazione Alberto Peruzzo (IT), Espacio Fundación Telefónica (ES), National Taichung Theatre (TW), and Palazzo Cipolla (IT).
Another crucial interest of the studio's artistic practice have always been live performances. Over the years, this ongoing exploration has led the studio to operate not only as an interdisciplinary art studio, but also as a theatre company and independent production house. Since its inception, fuse* has developed a language that blends movement, sound, and real-time visuals into immersive experiences that shift perception. Each work creates deep synergy on stage, where body, light, sound, and space interact as a living system, telling a story through their continuous dialogue.
fuse* performances were presented at leading international festivals such as Mutek Montréal, Kikk Festival, Digilogue and RomaEuropa, and staged in major theatres around the world, including: National Taichung Theatre (TW), Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris (Mexico City, MX), Duke University (Durham, US), Kannai Hall (Yokohama, JP) and Zorlu Performing Arts Center (Istanbul, TR).
Each work by fuse* aims to transform the artistic experience into a powerful tool for change and knowledge-sharing, encouraging audiences to listen to and observe the world, nature, themselves, and others with renewed curiosity and empathy.
A contemporary dancer and trained acrobat, Elena Annovi has developed extensive experience and a deep passion for suspended dance, vertical dance, and the exploration of movement in the air. She continues her artistic journey through performances and installations, experimenting with the relationship between the body and its environment, becoming not only a performer but also a composer and inventor.
Her love lies in merging aerial work with movement on the ground, creating a unique language that explores the many “spaces” and places where the body and movement can be experienced in new ways. She feels a strong drive to bring her performances to unconventional locations, as her belief in the power and importance of chosen performance spaces continues to grow.
Annovi performed in the Opening Ceremony of the Torino 2006 Olympic Games in collaboration with the company Kataklò. She toured internationally for 5 years with the company Materiali Resistenti Dance Factory. She has performed in 5 different productions with the vertical dance company Il Posto.
In 2015, her collaboration with fuse* studio began, initiating an in-depth exploration of the relationship between the body and technology. This research led to the creation of two major works, both choreographed and performed by her as the lead: Ljos (2014), presented at major European and international festivals, and Dökk (2017) —a powerful performance in which she is fully immersed in a visual scenography that responds to her movement through motion sensors.
