At over two metres in height, Peter is easily the most recognisable member of the Orchestra. As his dad was a diplomat, Peter was born in Portugal and grew up in the Soviet Union, Brazil, America, Finland, Italy and Britain. After trying out the violin, trumpet and guitar, he found the ukulele and joined the Orchestra. Peter has worked in experimental shows and with many showbiz greats, including the early incarnations of Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, and even once lent his uke to Tiny Tim. Away from the tuxedo, Peter has an alter ego, the lounge singer ‘Tony Penultimate’, whose musical shenanigans have a website all of their own. To enliven touring, Peter likes to make very short movies for his own production company, The Airline Toilet Theatre Company.
Ben is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, mandolin, violin, saxophone, flute, trumpet, banjo and ukulele. His background as an all-rounder led him to form the rock band ‘Purple Monkey’ and the folk duo ‘Teapot Junkies’. Ben has also released several albums of his own original music. Born in Cornwall, he now lives with his family in the Welsh countryside, where he enjoys running, electronics and astronomy. But not all at once.
Leisa is a versatile artist with a background in theatre, music, directing and writing for stage, television, and radio. She has worked with many established names including, Miranda Hart (BBC) Jack Rooke (Channel 4), and Jen Brister (BBC) and has written her own solo shows, plus a raft of original songs for Musical Comedy Award winners, ‘Adams & Rea’. Leisa has played in the Orchestra for over 20 years and was its Creative Producer from 2023-26. Of Irish-Italian heritage, she plays ukulele, guitar, bass and percussion, and lives in London.
Guy is a dynamic performer, writer and theatre maker from the North of England with a background in acting, dance, and clowning around. He has directed work for the National Youth Theatre and has created original plays and stop-frame animations with his own company, “Beggars Belief”. He loves writing songs. Guy joined the Orchestra in 2023 full time and loves seeing more of the world on tour, occasionally trying new places for wild swimming. Home is Lancashire in the Northwest of England, where he grew up.
From Dumfries, Scotland, our youngest member Laura started playing the ukulele at the age of fifteen after seeing the Orchestra in concert. In 2019 - several years and one English Literature degree later - Laura joined the Orchestra full-time. Away from the Ukes, Laura writes and performs original music under the stage name Ra. She also enjoys making eclectic YouTube productions and electronic synth-wave collaborations, one of which features in a popular Netflix show.
Laurie is a professional bass player from Dorset, who has many years’ experience playing and recording with a huge variety of artists including Robbie McIntosh, Mutter Slater and Steve Jones. Having studied jazz and composition, the talented and unflappable Laurie has been involved in writing and arranging music as well as in music education. Laurie has provided his signature bass sound on tour with the Orchestra since 2024 and hasn’t missed a gig since then. He lives in Dorset with his family, close to the sea.
Hester hails from a musical family and has a background in theatre, alternative cabaret, comedy, singing, songwriting, and dance. She has spent most of her adult life in the Orchestra, but alongside this, she has also written and performed her own work, collaborating with others on shows like The Hairy Marys; The Mary Poppins Experience; The Film Noir Show; Cabaret and Comedy (Edinburgh and Glastonbury). In 2013, she moved to the Jurassic coast and landed the starring role in ‘Flea’ - Bridport’s homegrown Ukulele Opera. When Hester is at home, she loves swimming, writing and dressmaking.
